Hill Speeds To Daytona Xfinity Pole

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Austin Hill, who won the February NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona Int’l Speedway won the pole for Friday night’s Wawa 250 Powered by Coca Cola during qualifying Friday at the 2.5-mile track.

Hill’s Chevrolet was quickest in the first round of qualifying and backed it up with a 49.256-second lap (182.719 mph) to lead a Richard Childress Racing sweep of the front row.

Hill’s teammate, Austin Creed, will start second after running a 49.554-second lap in his Chevrolet.

It was Hill’s third pole of the season, with all three coming at superspeedways.

“Everyone on our team has been working really hard on the superspeedways,” Hill said. “Our superspeedway program has been really solid this year and last year. It is awesome to have Sheldon up front with us. An RCR front row is really nice.”

Sammy Smith was third in a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, while Chandler Smith was fourth in a Kaulig Racing Chevrolet, while Parker Kligerman was fifth in another Chevrolet.

Seven Chevrolets and three Toyotas made up the top-10 qualifiers.
