Allmendinger On Pole For NASCAR Xfinity Race At Las Vegas

AJ Allmendinger will start on the pole for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Allmendinger, with a top speed of 184.187 mph, claimed the pole for the Alsco Uniforms 300. It’s his second consecutive pole and Kaulig Racing’s third pole in three races to start the 2022 season.

It is Allmendinger’s fifth career Xfinity Series pole. He will attempt to defend his win in the 2021 edition of the race.

“A lot of it is credit to (teammate) Landon (Cassill), because the lap he put up, especially going as early as he went … I looked at the data and I was like ‘ok. We’re not going to touch the brake pedal at all. We’re going to try to run this wide open,'” Allmendinger told Fox Sports 1.

Allmendinger will be joined on the front row by JR Motorsports’ Josh Berry (183.001 mph).

The top five is completed by Riley Herbst, Noah Gragson and Landon Cassill.

Jesse Iwuji nearly wrecked during his qualifying run when he got loose in Turn 4 and caught his No. 34 Chevrolet before it went around.

Jeb Burton wrecked on his attempt after his left-rear tire went down in Turn 2. Burton had a tire go down in practice.

Qualifying was preceded by a 20 minute practice session.

Gragson posted the top speed at 178.654 mph.

He was followed in the top five by Sam Mayer (178.412 mph), Ryan Truex (177.608), Ty Gibbs (177.556) and Cassill (177.474). 

Only nine cars made runs of 10 laps or more. Gragson had the best 10-lap average at 177.482 mph.
