More Than 80 Entries For ValleyStar Credit Union 300

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – More than 80 of the nation’s best late model stock car competitors will battle for 40 starting positions in the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 this weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

Five previous ValleyStar Credit Union 300 winners are among the 83 entrants as of Wednesday morning, including two-time race winner Timothy Peters, 2016 winner Mike Looney, 2009 winner Jake Crum, 2008 winner Jason York and 2003 winner Jamey Caudill.

Josh Berry, the most recent winner of the event in 2019, will not compete after being tabbed to drive in place of injured JR Motorsports teammate Michael Annett this weekend at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

The CARS Late Model Stock Tour is well represented, with series regulars Bobby McCarty, Connor Jones, Daniel Silvestri, Justin Johnson, Brandon Pierce, Jonathan Shafer, Layne Riggs, Jared Fryar, Jonathan Findley and Kaden Honeycutt among the entrants.

Other notable entries include regional touring stars Bubba Pollard and Stephan Nasse. Pollard has two previous starts in the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 with a best finish of fifth, while this will be Nasse’s Martinsville debut.

Also entered is presumptive NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series National champion Peyton Sellers, who is still chasing his first victory in the prestigious Martinsville late model race. In 37 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series starts this year at multiple tracks, Sellers has 21 victories.

Other entrants include several drivers with ARCA Menards Series experience, including recently crowned ARCA Menards Series East champion Sammy Smith, ARCA Menards Series championship contender Corey Heim, ARCA Menards Series East regular Mason Diaz, part-time competitor Taylor Gray and Rev Racing driver Rajah Caruth.

This year’s race will have a $110,000 purse with $32,000 to the race winner. The 200-lap feature race will include three segments: 75 laps, 75 laps and 50 laps. Stage one and stage two winners will each receive $1,000.

On Friday, four hours of practice will be followed by single car qualifying under the lights. The top two cars from qualifying will make the 200-lap feature, with the pole winner receiving a $5,000 bonus. To determine the rest of the 40-car field for the feature, the remaining cars will be placed into four 25-lap heat races on Saturday.
