CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Steve Richards, who worked for the Performance Racing Network to help provide radio coverage of NASCAR events for more than 30 years, died early Wednesday morning from complications related to COVID-19.
Richards had been hospitalized for several weeks prior to his passing.
“For three decades Steve Richards worked to help bring NASCAR to fans across the country,” NASCAR officials said in a statement. “Through his pit reporting for PRN and various hosting roles, he became a familiar name and voice to fans of the sport. Steve was a friend to many and he will be missed dearly.”
Richards held several roles at the Performance Racing Network during his time with the company, including pit reporter, producer and co-anchor. He could often be found interviewing drivers and team members on pit road before, during and after NASCAR events across the United States.
