Season In Review: William Byron, No. 24

While there wasn’t a clear favorite to win the NASCAR Cup Series title in 2023, William Byron certainly was one of the top picks.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver showcased his talent during his sixth full-time season in the Cup Series, stacking up a series-best (and career-best) six wins during the 36-race tour.

He earned victories at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway, Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway, Watkins Glen (N.Y.) Int’l Raceway and Texas Motor Speedway.

In addition, the 25-year-old stacked up 15 top-fives, 21 top 10s and led 1,016 laps.

Byron also led the 16-driver field into the first round of the Cup Series Playoffs as the points leader.

The No. 24 Chevrolet pilot concluded the season third in the point standings after finishing fourth at the Nov. 5 finale at Phoenix Raceway. Champion Ryan Blaney and runner-up Kyle Larson finished second and third in the 312-lapper, respectively.

“We had a great season, a lot to be proud of, a lot of really solid races, communicating well as a team. I feel like all that stuff can just go up a notch hopefully, just have a bit more speed at certain tracks that we know are important,” Byron noted at Phoenix.
