Reddick, No. 45 Team Penalized After Darlington

NASCAR has penalized Tyler Reddick and the No. 45 23XI Racing team on Tuesday, after violations were found during pre-qualifying inspection at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

The No. 45 team was found in violation of Section 14.11.2.1.A of the NASCAR Rule Book, which states that, “Any and all ballast added to the vehicle must be secured inside a ballast container(s). … Additional ballast containers will not be permitted to be added to the chassis.”

As a result, competition officials docked the team 10 points in both the drivers and owners standings.

Prior to the Goodyear 400 at Darlington, the team lost pit-stall selection after the infraction was discovered on Friday. Reddick’s crew chief Billy Scott was also ejected for the remainder of the weekend.

With 23XI’s performance director Dave Rogers filling in as crew chief, Reddick finished 22nd in the Cup Series event.

After triggering a multi-car wreck on Sunday due to his tire dislodging from his race car, Erik Jones will lose Nate McBride (jack) and Adam Riley (rear tire changer) to a two-race suspension. The driver of the No. 43 Legacy Motor Club Chevrolet was held on pit road for two laps following the incident. Jones finished 25th.

The infraction falls under the heading of Section 8.8.10.4.C — “Loss or separation of an improperly installed tire/wheel from the vehicle.”
