Denny Hamlin will start on pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan Int’l Speedway after rain canceled the session.
The lineup was set based on NASCAR’s qualifying metric.

23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick will start alongside Hamlin, with Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell starting third to make it a Toyota 1-2-3 at the front of the field.
Kyle Larson was the first Chevrolet in fourth, with NASCAR Playoff bubble driver Bubba Wallace in fifth. Wallace is three points above the cutline in 15th with three races remaining in the regular season.
Chase Elliott (sixth) and Ross Chastain (seventh) followed suit. Chastain is tied with Chris Buescher for the final playoff spot.
Reigning Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney starts eighth while William Byron and last week’s winner, Austin Dillon, start ninth and 10th, respectively.
In an abreviated practice session prior to the rain, Chastain topped the speed charts at 192.303 mph. Martin Truex Jr., Larson, Byron and Wallace completed the top five.
