NASCAR Sets Lineup Procedures For Upcoming Races

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR officials have announced the starting lineup and pit selection procedures for upcoming events on the calendar across the three NASCAR National divisions.

As part of the announcement, NASCAR officials confirmed that the NASCAR Cup Series will host a practice session at Talladega Superpeedway the day prior to the event scheduled for the historic venue on June 21.

For the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series races at Bristol Motor Speedway (May 31), Atlanta Motor Speedway (June 7), Martinsville Speedway (June 10), Homestead-Miami Speedway (June 14) and Talladega (June 21), the starting lineups will be determined via random draw.

The random draw format will be the same utilized for recent events at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway and North Carolina’s Charlotte Motor Speedway. Starting positions 1-12 will be randomly drawn from the charter teams in those owner championship positions. The same will be done for positions 13-24 and 25-36, with open teams filling positions 37-40 based on their owner points position.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series starting lineups for four of the next five races will include random draws as well. Those events include races at Bristol (June 1), Atlanta (June 6), Homestead-Miami (June 13) and Talladega (June 20).

Starting positions 1-12 will be randomly drawn from the teams in those owner championship positions. The same will be done for positions 13-24 and 25-36, with positions 37-40 filled based on order of eligibility.

The starting lineup for the June 14 race at Homestead-Miami Speedway will set via an invert based on the results from the race on the previous day. Positions 1-15 will be inverted based on their results from June 13, with positions 16-40 starting in the order they finished, with new entries starting at the tail.

Lastly, the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series fields for June 6 at Atlanta and June 13 at Homestead-Miami will be set via a random draw based on owner points.

Starting positions 1-10 will be randomly drawn from the teams in those owner championship positions. The same will be done for positions 11-21 and 22-32. Positions 33-40 will be assigned based on order of eligibility.

Pit stall selections for all three divisions will be based on finishing positions from each series’ previous race, followed by new entries in order of points.
