DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR officials confirmed Friday what had been rumored for months, that car numbers will move forward towards the front wheel in the NASCAR Cup Series beginning next season.
The news was confirmed by NASCAR following the announcement that Kurt Busch would move to 23XI Racing next season. In video and photographs accompanying that announcement, the car number on the car Busch was standing beside was moved forward.Â
The movement of the car number will allow more room for sponsorship branding on the sides of each race car when the Next Gen car makes its competition debut in 2022.Â
The move will only take place in the NASCAR Cup Series and numbers will remain on the door in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series next year.
