CONCORD, N.C. — As the NASCAR Cup Series drivers headed off pit row at Charlotte Motor Speedway, it was Team Penske’s Joey Logano who made his way out front and stayed there, picking up pole position for Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 400.
At a speed of 103.4 mph, the driver of the No. 22 Ford launched to the top in the final qualifying session.
“It’s a nice starting spot, but that’s all it is, is a starting spot,” Logano said. “So, we’ve got to execute this race.”
Logano is hoping to move his way up from fifth in the championship following Charlotte.
William Byron, Daniel Suarez and Tyler Reddick filled out the top four in qualifying.
Logano’s teammate Austin Cindric qualified fifth, putting his Ford Mustang in a solid position going into Sunday’s race. Cindric is currently at the cutline in the Cup Series standings, making this a pivotal round for the driver of the No. 2.
Ryan Blaney, A.J. Allmendinger, Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott and Ross Chastain completed the top 10.
As last week’s winner and the first playoff driver to score a victory in the postseason, Elliott is hoping to go back-to-back and land his No. 9 Chevrolet atop the podium at the ROVAL.
The Bank of America ROVAL 400 will commence at 2:25 p.m. (ET) on Sunday.
