Johnson To Enter Cup Series Chicago Street Race

Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson is set to contest the inaugural NASCAR street race in July.

The 47-year-old announced on the FOX pre-race show before Sunday’s exhibition Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, that he will compete in the Chicago Street Race on July 2.

Johnson, who joined Petty GMS in November as a part-owner before the team rebranded to Legacy Motor Club, will compete in the No. 84 Chevrolet in this year’s Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

It’ll be a diverse schedule for Johnson in 2023, who was also tapped to compete in NASCAR’s Garage 56 project at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 10-11.

After retiring from full-time Cup Series action in 2020, Johnson competed in the NTT IndyCar Series for two seasons, including a full schedule last season.
