BRISTOL, Tenn. — Denny Hamlin drove his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to a quick lap of 20.638 seconds to lead the final practice session for Sunday’s Food City Dirt Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Hamlin’s best lap was more than six-tenths of a second slower than the 20.638-second lap that Tyler Reddick turned to pace the opening practice session for the NASCAR Cup Series aboard his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.
Hamlin turned the best lap despite bouncing off the wall during a session that was run on a rubbered-down and dusty race track.
Hamlin’s teammate Kyle Busch was second quick, while rookie Todd Gilliland was third in his Front Row Motorsports Ford.
Dirt-racing veterans held down spots four through six, with Reddick leading Christopher Bell (JGR Toyota) and reigning Cup Series champion Kyle Larson aboard the Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Chevrolet.
