Hamlin Inks Contract Extension With JGR

Denny Hamlin has signed a multi-year extension with Joe Gibbs Racing, keeping Hamlin as the driver of the No. 11 Toyota, the team announced Monday.

Despite questions of whether Hamlin would return to the team he’s called home since his rookie season in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2006, the two sides agreed to an extension.

“Joe Gibbs Racing has been my home for almost 20 years now,” said Hamlin. ”My relationship with Joe (Gibbs), my team, and everyone at JGR means a lot to me. We have accomplished so much together over the years. I’m excited to finally announce this so we can put all our focus on chasing the championship.”

Embarking on his 19th season in the Cup Series, the 42-year-old has 50 victories, along with three Daytona 500 triumphs.

“It is amazing to think it has been almost 20 years since J.D. (Gibbs) first saw him race and we signed him to that first contract,” Team owner Joe Gibbs said. “He has been a big part of Joe Gibbs Racing ever since then and we look forward to that continuing for years to come.”

Hamlin has two wins so far this season, and currently sits fifth in the NASCAR Playoff standings. Along with his driving duties, Hamlin is also a co-owner of 23XI Racing in the Cup Series alongside NBA legend Michael Jordan.
