Ganassi Fined & Suspended For COVID Violation

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR team owner Chip Ganassi has been suspended for one race and fined $30,000 for violating COVID-19 event protocols.

Ganassi violated Section 12.8.1.b of the NASCAR Rule Book, a subsection of the member conduct guidelines that includes compliance with COVID-19 event procedures. NASCAR indicated that Ganassi was penalized after he brought a non-essential individual into the restricted competition area footprint last weekend at Daytona Int’l Speedway.

As a result of the suspension, Ganassi will not be allowed to attend this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series at Hoemstead-Miami Speedway. His two race teams – the No. 1 of Kurt Busch and the No. 42 of Ross Chastain – will be allowed to race Sunday.

Ganassi is allowed to appeal the penalty.
