Alex Bowman Inks Extension With Hendrick Motorsports

CONCORD, N.C. – Alex Bowman will remain as the driver of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet through at least 2023 after agreeing to a contract extension.

The team announced the news Friday morning. The contract extension aligns Bowman with sponsor Ally, which is signed on to sponsor the No. 48 Chevrolet through the 2023 season.

“(I’m) excited about it (and) obviously excited to continue to work with Ally and drive the No. 48 car,” Bowman said. “It’s been a lot of fun this year and cool to have a couple wins already.”

Bowman has raced full-time for Hendrick Motorsports since the 2018 season when he joined the team to pilot the No. 88 Chevrolet vacated by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Prior to that, Bowman competed in 10 races for the team in place of Earnhardt when he was sidelined with a concussion in 2016.

Bowman transitioned to the No. 48 Chevrolet this season following the departure of seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson.

In his fifth season driving for Hendrick Motorsports, Bowman has earned four victories, including two this season. He’s earned three poles for the team, including two Daytona 500 poles. He finished a career-best sixth in the NASCAR Cup Series standings in 2020.
