Quartararo Leads Yamaha 1-2 In Assen MotoGP Run

ASSEN, The Netherlands – Fabio Quartararo took his fourth MotoGP win of the year Sunday during the Dutch TT at TT Circuit Assen, leading a 1-2 finish for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team.

After taking the initial holeshot, Quartararo was overhauled by Francesco Bagnaia at the end of the first lap, but didn’t go quietly. Though it took him three tries, after pass attempts on laps three and five didn’t stick, Quartararo was able to make the move for the lead on lap six through turns 12 and 13.

From there, Quartararo broke away from the field and went on to his seventh career MotoGP victory in just 42 premier class starts by 2.757 seconds.

“I’m really happy, especially because during the weekend I did only bad starts, and I mean really bad, and I was actually a bit worried,” Quartararo said. “But with this team we always get the job done and save the best for the race. Today it was like this, so I am so happy. It was a really good race. It was a tough one, but we did it.

“I think today is the perfect day to go on holiday after a victory. I will go see my family straight away to enjoy this moment and spend some time with them.”

Maverick Viñales rebounded from a last-place finish in Germany to second Sunday, followed by Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Joan Mir, Pramac Racing’s Johann Zarco and Red Bull KTM’s Miguel Oliveira.

Bagnaia faded to sixth ahead of Marc Marquez, Aleix Espargaro, Takaaki Nakagami and Pol Espargaro.

With his win, Quartararo increased his lead in the championship standings to 34.
