VALENCIA, Spain – The Repsol Honda Team has confirmed that six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will sit out the remainder of the season and will return to the team next year as he continues to recover from an arm injury.
Marquez suffered a broken right humerus during the MotoGP opener in July and underwent surgery to repair the injury. He attempted to return to MotoGP competition in the next event, but after turning a few laps he parked his bike and has not competed since as he continues his recovery.
Working through his recovery program and tracking the progress of his arm, Marquez in conjunction with Honda, his team and multiple expert doctors, elected to delay his return to action until 2021.
Stefan Bradl has ridden in place of Marquez for most of the season and will continue to do so in the final two MotoGP events of the year.
“First of all I want to wish Marc all the best in his continued recovery and thank HRC for giving me this opportunity,” said Bradl. “We have made a lot of progress since Le Mans and I have felt my level increase with more bike time and working with the Repsol Honda Team. The week of data will help us and the forecast is looking better at the moment. It’s going to be a busy end to the year but I am looking forward to it.”
