Sexton Secures Fourth Consecutive Fast Qualifier

For a fourth consecutive week, Honda HRC’s Chase Sexton was the fast qualifier in the 450cc class of Monster Energy AMA Supercross.

Sexton set a 1:05.771-second lap time towards the end of the final qualifying session at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland, Calif., securing his spot at the top for the night show.

H.E.P. Motorsport’s Ken Roczen was first out of the gate during the practice start in qualifying, but it was Adam Cianciarulo and his No. 9 Monster Energy Kawasaki steed who jumped up to the top of the leaderboard early on. Star Racing Yamaha’s Eli Tomac staked a claim at the top with seven minutes to go with a 1:07.371-second lap time, but Sexton broke into the 1:06-second range and refused to relinquish the lead from then on.

With four minutes to go, Tomac threw down a 1:06.593-second lap time, which secured a third-place finish in qualifying. Sexton held his ground in first, while Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson took second with a 1:06.210-second lap time.

Cianciarulo qualified fourth and Red Bull KTM’s Cooper Webb qualified fifth.

450SX Qualifying 1 Results

Sexton wasted no time in leaping to the lead during the first qualifying session of the day.

Once again, he was nearly a second quicker than the second-place rider.

The Honda HRC rider’s 1:06.632-second lap time edged out Anderson’s 1:07.488-second lap time. However, both were considerably faster than Christian Craig in third-place — 1:08.195 seconds — as most of the remaining riders in the top 10 were in the 1:08-second range.

Cianciarulo secured fourth, Tomac qualified fifth and Colt Nichols was sixth.

250SX Overall Qualifying Results

The stars of the 250SX West division were back on track in Oakland, Calif., to make up what was originally supposed to be round two of the season. The original Oakland Supercross date was Jan. 14, but due to unfavorable weather conditions, the round was rescheduled for Feb. 18.

Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence easily topped qualifying with a 1:06.470-second lap time, while Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s R.J. Hampshire finished second with a 1:07.211-second lap time. After sustaining injury three weeks ago at the Anaheim 2 round, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Cameron McAdoo bounced back to finish third with a 1:07.372-second lap time.

Levi Kitchen came across the line in fourth, while Pierce Brown qualified fifth.
