Jeff Shepard used a late-race charge to pass Frankie Kerr and win the opening round (June 25, 2000) of the 18th annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek at Attica Raceway Park.
The $5,000 victory before a standing-room-only crowd was Shepard’s first All Star triumph of the year in Les and Lynda Stewart’s Kriner-Chevrolet powered Eagle riding on Hoosier tires.
Todd Gracey started on the pole with Kerr alongside. Gracey led the first 23 laps until Kerr passed with a high move going down the backstretch on lap 24.
Coming down to take the white flag, Shepard dived under Kerr in turn four and drifted up in front of him to lead at the flagstand.
