Power Inks New IndyCar Deal With Team Penske

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Take 2014 NTT IndyCar Series champion and 2018 Indianapolis 500 winner Will Power off the open market.

On Saturday, NBC Sports reporter Marty Snider confirmed with Team Penske President Tim Cindric before qualifications for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg that Power has signed a new NTT IndyCar Series contract with the organization.

The news was revealed on NBC’s Peacock streaming platform.

In a conversation earlier in the weekend in his motorhome with SPEED SPORT, Power said, “I’m very relieved and satisfied to have a new deal with Team Penske. It’s the only team I really want to race for, and this will get me through the next several seasons.

“Now, I can go out and focus on winning races and challenging for the championship without having to worry about whether or not I’ll be back for next season. Team Penske has taken really good care of me and I look forward to continuing that relationship not only for the rest of this season, but for future seasons to come.”

Power has 39 career Indy car wins, including two in Champ Car. He also has 62 career poles, second on the all-time IndyCar Series list behind Mario Andretti’s 67.

He has no aspirations of leaving Team Penske anytime soon, either.

“It’s fantastic. I love being with the team,” Power noted. “They have been loyal to me. It’s great to be with such a great sponsor as Verizon and Team Chevrolet.

“I want to finish my career driving for Team Penske.”

Power spun in his qualification group and will start 20th out of 24 drivers in Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. He won at St. Petersburg in 2010 and ’14.
