No Limits On Attendance For Detroit Grand Prix

INDIANAPOLIS – In another positive sign for motorsports returning back to normal, fans are going to be allowed to attend June’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix IMSA and IndyCar Weekend at Belle Isle.

The State of Michigan announced on Thursday it was lifting the restrictions on outdoor seating capacity on June 1. As a result, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear will welcome full seating in its grandstands for race weekend on Belle Isle on June 11-13.

Following the previous state and local health and safety protocols, the Grand Prix had planned for socially distanced seating for next month’s event, reducing its grandstand capacity to approximately 20 percent. With the new guidelines allowing for full attendance at outdoor venues beginning in June, the Grand Prix will now be able to accommodate seating for a few thousand more fans in its grandstands for each day of the Friday-Sunday event.

“We are so excited that we will be able to welcome more fans back to Belle Isle to experience the Grand Prix June 11-13 with the restrictions on outdoor venues being lifted in the State of Michigan,” said Michael Montri, President of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. “With vaccinations continuing and positivity rates improving across the state, this is another strong indication that we are moving in a positive direction in Michigan.”
The additional reserved grandstand seats will go on sale on Monday, May 24 and will be available for online purchase only at www.DetroitGP.com/tickets.

Thursday’s announcement came at a great time for Grand Prix fans as virtually all of the socially spaced reserved grandstand seating had been sold for this year’s event. Fans can still purchase general admission tickets now at DetroitGP.com, while the additional reserved grandstand seats will be placed on sale next Monday. All previously purchased ticket sales are considered final.

The Grand Prix will continue to follow the current health and safety guidelines in place in Michigan and total attendance will still be reduced in 2021 as organizers remain focused on hosting a safe and entertaining event this summer.

“Our top priority has always been to provide a safe and fun experience on Belle Isle for our fans,” Montri said. “As we followed the protocols that were in place throughout our planning, and with the build out for the Grand Prix entering its final stages, many of the fan activities and attractions that were featured at our event in the past – like live music – will not be included in 2021. We have heard from many of our fans that are looking forward to being back on Belle Isle to enjoy a world-class event and we are so excited to provide that opportunity to a few thousand more fans each day at the Grand Prix. With displays from Chevrolet, Cadillac, Firestone and others, new general admission viewing areas for fans to enjoy and exciting racing with INDYCAR, IMSA – including the return of Corvette Racing – and Indy Lights, it’s going to be a great weekend on Belle Isle.”

Earlier this week, fans reserved their tickets for Comerica Bank Free Prix Day on Friday, June 11 and within two days all available tickets were spoken for. With Thursday’s announcement, additional reserved grandstand seats for Comerica Bank Free Prix Day will also be made available and fans will be able to reserve those tickets as well on Monday, May 24 at DetroitGP.com.
