PORTLAND, Oregon – IndyCar has added a second run-off chicane in Turn 1 for this weekend’s Grand Prix of Portland.
Previously, there was one towards the back of the run-off area, now there is one added to the front of it. According to IndyCar, the idea is to be able to slow down the cars enough, so that when they return to the track they have not gained or maintained their position.
If drivers do not follow the (two) run-off chicane procedure, they may be subject to penalty.
IndyCar will evaluate how this looks and feels during Friday’s and Saturday’s practice and send a memo to confirm the procedure for Sunday’s race.
