INDIANAPOLIS — Callum Ilott was at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday in his Arrow McLaren apparel as the driver from Great Britain will continue his fill-in duties with the team at this week’s Indianapolis 500 Open Test.
Ilott has taken over the No. 6 Chevrolet after David Malukas sustained a broken left wrist in a mountain biking crash in February.
At 2 p.m. Eastern Time April 9, Arrow McLaren officially announced Ilott would continue in the No. 6 Chevrolet at the Open Test, scheduled for April 10 and April 11, weather permitting.
He will join fellow drivers Pato O’Ward, Alexander Rossi and 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson at the two-day test.
Malukas is still recovering from a left wrist injury and surgery with his recovery timeline now extending at least beyond the Acura Long Beach Grand Prix in California on April 21.
Ilott is unavailable for Long Beach because of a clash with the World Endurance Challenge schedule.
Arrow McLaren is evaluating other options and will announce the No. 6 driver for Long Beach soon. The 2023 F-2 Champion Theo Pourchaire is considered the frontrunner to take over that ride at Long Beach.
