Herta Paces Mid-Ohio Practice

STEAM CORNERS, Ohio — Colton Herta of Andretti Autosport paced Saturday morning’s NTT IndyCar Series practice with a fast time of 1:07.0275 around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

The driver of the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda was followed by two Chevrolets, including Will Power’s 1:07.0309 in the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet for Team Penske. Power would later bring out a red flag that ended the session with about 1:15 left on the schedule.

Team Penske teammate Josef Newgarden was third at 1:07.0614 in the No. 2 PPG Chevrolet for Team Penske. Rookie driver David Malukas was fourth in the No. 18 Dale Coyne Racing Honda at 1:07.0978. Defending NTT IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou rounded out the top five at 1:07.1521 in the No. 10 Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing.

There were three red flags in the session. The first was for rookie driver Devlin DeFranceso in turn two 10 minutes into the session. Dalton Kellett went off course and into the tire barrier in turn 12 40 minutes into the session and Power stopped on course in turn four to bring out the final red flag.

Qualifications for Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the All-New Honda Civic R is later today at 2:45 p.m. culminating with the Firestone Fast Six.
