Ganassi Duo Paces Full-Field Indy 500 Practice

INDIANAPOLIS – Shortly after Scott Dixon celebrated his fourth Indy 500 pole, Chip Ganassi Racing continued its dominance at this year’s 105th Indianapolis 500 in the two-hour, full field practice that followed the Fast Nine Shootout on Sunday.

Alex Palou was the fastest in the No. 10 NTT DATA Honda with a fast lap of 225.649 miles per hour in race trim. Teammate Marcus Ericsson was second at 225.632 mph in the No. 8 Huski Chocolate Honda.

Earlier on Sunday, Dixon claimed the fourth Indy 500 pole of his career with a four-lap average of 231.685 miles per hour in the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda.

All four Chip Ganassi Racing cars were in Sunday’s Fast Nine including Tony Kanaan, who will start fifth and Palou, who rolls off sixth. Ericsson will start ninth in next Sunday’s 105th running of The Greatest Spectacle In Racing.

As for the two-hour practice, Conor Daly’s No. 47 US Air Force Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter Racing was third at 225.453 mph followed by Kanaan’s No. 48 American Legion Honda at 225.431 mph.

Dixon rounded out the top five with a fast lap at 224.802 mph. Two time and defending Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato was sixth at 224.480 mph in the No. 30 Honda, just one spot ahead of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing teammate Graham Rahal’s 224.376 mph in the No. 15 Honda.

Simona De Silvestro, who will start last in the 105th Indy 500, was also the slowest driver in practice with a speed at 220.604 mph in the Paretta Autosport Chevrolet that has a shared relationship with Team Penske.

There were 2,093 total laps run involving the 33 cars that will comprise the field for next Sunday’s Indy 500. The only incident was a blown Chevrolet engine in Simon Pagenaud’s No. 22 Menard’s Chevrolet that brought out the yellow flag for 9 minutes, 38 seconds.

Team Penske rookie Scott McLaughlin ran 95 laps in the two-hour session, nearly half the distance of the Indy 500.

The track is closed for all activity until Carb Day on Friday for a final two-hour practice that runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
