Ericsson Is Quick In Indy Warm-Up

INDIANAPOLIS — Marcus Ericsson ran the fastest lap in the closing seconds of Saturday morning’s warmup session for the NTT IndyCar Series GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The driver of the No. 8 Huski Chocolate Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing ran a quick time of 1:11.0839 around the 2.439-mile, 14-turn Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. That knocked talented newcomer Callum Ilott of Juncos-Hollinger Racing off the top of the timing charts after the Chevrolet driver ran a time of 1:11.1970.

Felix Rosenqvist’s Arrow McLaren Chevrolet was third at 1:11.2391 followed by Andretti Autosports’ Colton Herta at 1:11.2552.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan’s Jack Harvey rounded out the top five at 1:11.2630.

None of the 27 cars on track used a set of Firestone Red tires as the teams are saving them for the race.

The start of Saturday’s GMR Grand Prix has been moved up to 3:07 p.m. ET from its originally scheduled 3:45 p.m. start because of the threat of rain the area.
