Castroneves Set For Full Season With Meyer Shank Racing

PATASKALA, Ohio – Meyer Shank Racing officials have announced that Helio Castroneves will return to the team to race full-time in the NTT IndyCar Series next season aboard the No. 06 AutoNation/ SiriusXM Honda.

The news comes after Castroneves captured his fourth Indianapolis 500 victory in his debut for the team in May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“I am thrilled to get the chance to go for a fifth Indianapolis 500 win, and so excited to fight for the IndyCar championship again with a full season of races next year with Meyer Shank Racing,” said Castroneves. “Mike (Shank) and Jim (Meyer) have developed some incredible sponsorships with AutoNation and SiriusXM, and having that support is critical. I have been missing racing in IndyCar full time so much. So I cannot wait to get a head start on next year with some strong races to finish this season.”

The team also confirmed that Jack Harvey would not return following the conclusion of the NTT IndyCar Series season. A driver for the team’s No. 60 entry in 2022 will be announced later.

Castroneves joined Meyer Shank Racing after departing Team Penske at the end of last season. He last ran a full NTT IndyCar Series schedule in 2017 before Team Penske shifted Castroneves to the team’s IMSA program with Acura. Castroneves also an Indy-only schedule from 2018 to ’20 for Penske, but failed to finish inside the top-10.

Paired with Ricky Taylor, Castroneves captured the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship DPi championship in 2020 before Penske disbanded its sports car program.

The 46-year-old Brazilian joined Team Penske for the 2000 CART season before Team Penske made the switch to the NTT IndyCar Series in 2002. He earned 24 of his 25 NTT IndyCar Series wins driving for team owner Roger Penske before scoring his fourth Indianapolis 500 victory in May driving for Meyer Shank Racing.

Castroneves is scheduled to make one more NTT IndyCar Series start during the Music City Grand Prix on Aug. 8 in Nashville, Tenn.
