MUSKEGON, Mich. — Brian Shirley led all but the first lap en route to his fifth victory of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Wednesday night at Thunderbird Raceway.
Shirley held off a late-race charge from Bobby Pierce during the 40-lap event and secured a $5,000 victory, closing the gap in the standings between he and point leader Pierce as the tour enters its final week.
Pierce romped from 24th starting spot to finish second, with Frank Heckenast Jr., Jeep Van Wormer and Rusty Schlenk rounding out the top five.
