TAZEWELL, Tenn. – David Payne dominated Saturday’s Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Late Model Series feature at Tazewell Speedway to earn a $10,000 victory.
Payne started second for the 50-lap feature and led the entire distance, but had to contend with two of dirt late model racing’s hottest drivers – Jimmy Owens and Brandon Overton – who started in the second row.
Luck was on Payne’s side on Saturday night however, as both Owens and Overton slowed during the feature with flat tires.
Payne drove to the checkered flag ahead of sixth-place starter Michael Chilton, who finished two seconds behind Payne. Kyle Strickler was third, followed by Overton and Tyler Millwood.
Heats went to Millwood, Owens, Payne and Overton.
Saturday’s event was co-sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series.
