DAVENPORT, Iowa — Many of the top dirt late model drivers in the country were at Davenport Speedway Tuesday night for the MARS Racing Series event. When it was all over, Hudson O’Neal was in victory lane with a check for $10,000.
The Hoker 50 A-main Started with Stormy Scott and Jason Feger sharing the front row. Scott burst out to the early lead with Feger and Brian Shirley in tow. The top six cars stayed fairly consistent throughout the first twenty laps.
Following a lap twenty-four restart, the running order started to unravel. O’Neal, who was fifth at the time of the caution, powered his way into the lead on lap 26. Shirley would run second to O’Neal until lap 35, when Brandon Overton took the spot.
The caution flag flew for the third time with two laps to go, setting up a green-white-checkers. Overton made a last-lap run at O’Neal, but came up just short.
O’Neal held on for the win, finishing .026 seconds ahead of Overton.
Bobby Pierce beat out Shirley for third. Shirley and Garrett Alberson rounded out the top five.
Matt Ryan outran Justin Kay to win the IMCA late model feature and Matt Werner won the modified main event.
