Hall Of Famer Delmas Conley, 79

WHEELERBURG, Ohio – Delmas Conley, a star dirt late model competitor in the 1970s who was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2003, has died at the age of 79 after a battle with cancer. 

Conley earned a whopping 561 victories during his racing career, including wins in the Beckley USA 100 at West Virginia’s Beckley Motor Speedway, Southern 100 at Southern Ohio Speedway, Eldora Speedway’s Johnny Appleseed Classic and the Cornett Clash at Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park.

He earned track championships at Southern Ohio, Beckley, Atomic Speedway, Portsmouth and Checkered Flag Speedway in Kentucky during his lengthy career.  

Conley was followed in his racing footsteps by his two sons, Rod and R.J., at a number of the same race tracks. He earned the last of his 561 victories on Aug. 7 at Portsmouth Raceway Park.
