MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Ricky Thornton Jr. led flag to flag to win Saturday night’s Nippy 50 at Maquoketa Speedway.
Thornton banked $20,000 for the victory after holding back several mid-race challenges from Bobby Pierce and a late rush from Ryan Gustin, who finished second.
Brandon Sheppard, Pierce and Cody Overton rounded out the top five.
It was Thornton’s sixth victory of the dirt late model season.
Pierce was the fast qualifier for the 25-car field with a lap of 13.340 seconds.
