Hurricane Nixes Cherokee Lucas Run

GAFFNEY, S.C. — Due to the forecasted weather and current trajectory of Hurricane Elsa, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series staff and Cherokee Speedway officials have agreed to cancel Thursday’s 23rd annual Grassy Smith Memorial.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be in action July 9-10 for the Mountain Moonshine Classic at Smoky Mountain Speedway.

Teams will have an opportunity to leave Maryville, Tenn., even richer than in years past, with a 40-lap feature paying $12,000 to win on Friday and 60-lap A-Main on Saturday for $20,000 to win.

Tim McCreadie leads the Lucas Oil championship standings heading into the weekend. Jonathan Davenport and Hudson O’Neal are currently tied for second, 160 points behind McCreadie.
