Hobscheidt Is Winter Nationals Star

SOMERTON, Ariz. — The Winter Nationals resumed with the five divisions of IMCA sanctioned cars Thursday night, putting 229 racers in the Cocopah Speedway pit area.

Modifieds ran a 25-lap main and it was all Jacob Hobscheidt, who used traffic to keep Jeremy Mills from getting too close.  Mills finished second and Andrew Pearce was third.

The stock car main was led by Gregory Muirhead with side-by-side racing with Zachary Madrid creating numerous unofficial lead changes.

Jim Horejsi took over second and quickly pressured Muirhead until Curt Lund moved into second on a restart and took his turn at getting past Muirhead.

A restart with two laps remaining offered the last opportunity to pass Muirhead but the Mabank, Texas, driver held onto the lead for a win.

Lund was second and 20th-starting Chase Berkeley finished third.

Northern sport mods chased Miles Morris for 25 laps without success as Morris took the win by a car length over Shane Paris and Casey Murdoch.

The hobby stock main saw Thomas Daffern lead from the start being first across the line following a turn four, three wide journey on lap one.

Daffern led half the race before multi-groove racing led to numerous lead changes filled the second half.

Zack Tate led twice between Daffern leading again, but it was Minnesota driver. Brandon Bombardo who took the win by leading the final four laps.

Tate was second and Daffern finished third.

David Jones won the sport compact main over Kevin Reuter and Hudson Morris.

The IMCA Winter Nationals is being broadcast by IMCA.tv, with events on Friday and Saturday remaining.
