ALGONA, Iowa â The track where Kelly Shryock earned his 500th career feature win became the site of his first IMCA Speedweek victory.
Shryock checked out on his IMCA Modified foes Thursday evening, taking the $2,100 checkers at Kossuth County Speedway.Â
âWeâve been working pretty hard and everything has fallen into place for us at the right time,â Shryock said. âWe have a had a good car on the flatter tracks. Itâs been a great season for us.â
Heâd started fourth and drove by Nick Meyer and Zane DeVilbiss for the lead early in the 20-lap Denny Hovinga/Gary Harken Memorial main event at Algona.
Never seriously challenged, Shryock won ahead of Jeremy Mills. The low line worked for Zach Dochter over the second half of the race as he zipped past DeVilbiss and nearly caught Mills for runner-up honors.Â
Kollin Hibdon completed the top five. Austin Wolf advanced nine spots to sixth, Garett Wilson 10 places to seventh.
Shryockâs Modified win, his Kossuth County fifth of the season, came right after his fourth place finish in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature.Â
âWeâve been good in that car, too,â he said after the quick switch between rides. âWeâve got things pretty simplified. We pretty much know what we need to do up here.â
DeVilbiss made a couple nifty moves on the inside to win the Stock Car main and $1,000. Runner-up was Troy Swearingen and Cody Nielsen took third.Â
Colby Fett pocketed $1,250 for the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod victory, his second of Speedweek, at his hometown track. Matt Looft and George Nordman were next across the stripe.
Eric Knutsen was in the right place at the right time, capitalizing on the multi-car tangle that unfolded ahead of him on the last lap in winning the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature and $1,000.
Chris Krug and Dylan Nelson were next across the stripe.Â
And Kaytee DeVries outran husband Jay in the race to the $200 Mach-1 Sport Compact top prize. Third went to Lucas Parsons.Â
IMCA Speedweek concludes with Night of 1,000 Stars on Friday and Night of 10,000 Stars Saturday at Hancock County Speedway. Modifieds race for $3,000 to win Friday and for $4,000 on Saturday.
Pit gates at Britt open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. both days, with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing to follow.
