Sheppard Rules Eastern States 200

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — Matt Sheppard just keeps winning.

Sheppard banked $40,000 for winning Sunday’s 61st annual Eastern States 200 big-block modified race at Orange County Fair Speedway.

Sheppard added this crown jewel to his growing list after passing Stewart Friesen with six laps remaining in the 200-lap event on the five-eighths-mile track.

Sheppard has won more than 40 features this year, including a sweep of Super DIRT Week events and the Speed Showcase at Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway.

“What an unbelievable season,” Sheppard said. “Cap it off here at Eastern States, we’ve been awesome all year here at Middletown and won just about everything. Every crown jewel all in the same season, just a dream come true.”

Friesen finished second, with Jimmy Phelps, Peter Britten and Dillon Steuer rounding out the top five.
