Sheppard Hustles In Woodhull Thriller

WOODHULL, N.Y. — The 55-lap ‘Hustlin’ the High Banks’ headliner at Woodhull Raceway was decided by less than a car-length, as Matt Sheppard raced across the line for his third Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By Sunoco Modified victory of the season.

Sheppard’s 18th career STSS triumph pocketed him nearly $6,000 for his efforts and furthered his advantage in the Hurlock Auto & Speed North Region point standings.

“I thought we were done once Andy (Bachetti) got by us; he was just so good…I got a really good restart (lap 12) and drove the heck out of it and cleared him,” Sheppard said to the capacity crowd of what turned out to be his race-winning move.

Sheppard took the lead from Bachetti on lap 15 and fended off challenges from Bachetti, Anthony Perrego and Billy Van Pelt to claim the top prize.

Bachetti finished second with Perrego, Van Pelt and Ryan Susice rounding out the top five

Veteran Dale Welty claimed his third career STSS Crate 602 Sportsman win in Round No. 5 of the Precision Hydraulic & Oil North Region.
