Anderson Streaks, Repeats At IMCA Landus SportMod Nationals

BRITT, Iowa — So much for the slow start to his season.

Logan Anderson led 29 of 30 laps in repeating as winner of the Landus IMCA Northern SportMod Nationals at Hancock County Speedway, outrunning Matthew Looft and Colby Fett and earning $2,500 for his Monday night efforts.

The Eddyville hot shoe is now 2-for-2 in his Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod career outings at Britt. He’d been winless in 16 sanctioned starts before winning Saturday at 34 Raceway, Sunday at Benton County Speedway and then last night at Hancock County.

“It’s about a three hour trip so it feels good to go up there, have a good race and beat a lot of good cars,” Anderson said. “We have struggled this year so it feels good to start picking up the wins. Once they start to come, you get your confidence back.”

Anderson drew the outside pole start for the 30-lapper and took charge from the initial green flag, catching up with the back of the field just eight circuits in and bring Fett and Taylor Kuehl into traffic with him.

Fett cut Anderson’s advantage to a couple car lengths before the first caution, on lap 19, and was scored in the lead on lap 21.

Anderson went back to the top line in turns one and two in getting the lead back and weathered restarts on laps 25 and 28. 2021 race winner Looft challenged but couldn’t catch up and repeated as the runner-up.

“I got to the white flag and wasn’t seeing anyone. I just wanted to get it done. You always hate to see late restarts,” said Anderson, now planning to take a few nights off before racing Friday at CJ Speedway. “It was just great to be able to come back, go back-to-back and pick up the $2,500.”

Fett, 12th starting Cam Reimers and Kuehl completed the top five. Hard charger Jared Boumeester started 17th and finished sixth.

Rookie Izac Mallicoat’s career-first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win was good for $1,000 and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying eligibility.

Kelly Shryock, already guaranteed a starting spot in the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational,  collected the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers and $750. Mike Smith was the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock winner and Brooke Osler was best in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts.

The Landus IMCA SportMod Nationals were broadcast by SPEED SPORT TV affiliate IMCA.TV.
